While in high school I ran a construction company that I started and kept going for 40 years.  Was also busy in Junior Achievement and won president and company of the year and that lead me to win a scholarship from the YPO (Young Presidents Organization0. That brief encounter lead me to change my studies from Engineering to business.  While going to compete in the nationals for Junior Achievement for President of the Year I met a cute girl in a blue bikini with white polka dots and fell in love in 3.2 seconds, got engaged, bought a house and married her while we were 19 years old. Still together after 50 years and have bought her hundreds of bikinis since then.

Built up the construction business to where we were building about a million square feet a year of buildings and owning most of them.  First retired at age 33 and bought an 80 foot sailboat even though we had never sailed.  Took the two kids who were age 9 and 11 and spent 2 years sailing around the world teaching ourselves how to sail by books.

Came back from sailing and kicked the construction business into high gear. Built about 3 million square feet of office, warehouse and manufacturing buildings, most of which we owned. Then started to build a 3 block high rise project at an old car shredding mill but it was highly  contaminated with hazardous waste and became a superfund site.  Lost everything in that venture and moved to Kona, Hawaii to start over. Worked  teaching at the University of Hawaii and started over with BusinessWorks and rebuilt the business.  Sold the company.  Went around the world to 48 countries in 48 months looking for another country to live in to secure an additional passport.

Moved to Auckland, New Zealand and bought a 265 acre ranch and built an American barn and house. Bought and sold some businesses in NZ such as Century 21 real estate, saw milling, chain sawing, etc.   Life is good in NZ.  The police don't carry guns, it is safe here and the rest of the world is wanting to all move here.

I was only able to go to the Homecoming game and some of the reunion meetings, but wished I could have stayed for it all.  Write or call if you wish to say Hello.  BusinessWorksNZ@gmail.com
